Soccer 101 for Soccer Dreamers

Welcome guys to today’s blog! This blog is all about my soccer experience, but most importantly my tips and tricks if you want to start your soccer journey.

I started soccer in 2022 when I was 6 years old. Before that, I would always kick a small ball back and forth to the door. My dad heard all the banging from upstairs and knew that I might want to start soccer. A few months later, my dad enrolled me on a soccer team. At the beginning I was not that good, but through the years I started to get way better! Now here I am, loving soccer and playing every week!

Why is soccer such a good sport to do? Well, in soccer you pass the ball to your teammates. This is called teamwork. Having teamwork in your personality is an awesome trait for everyone. We use teamwork when there’s a group project at school or even just helping someone finish their homework.

Next is good health. In soccer you are always running, which is exercise. Exercise is great for strong, healthy bodies and minds, both physically and mentally.

If you’re new to soccer, then you may want to listen up because I’m going to talk about each role in soccer. Your coach might put you in any position!

Let’s start with goalie. People say that goalie is the most important role in soccer, and I agree. If there were no goalie, then goals would go in so many times! A goalie’s role is to protect the net, which means stopping the ball from going in. To be honest, goalie is my least favourite role. I would not like a ball going full speed toward my face!

Next up we have striker. I love this role. It is probably my all-time favourite position in soccer. A striker’s role is the lead attacking role. They are usually the ones who score the goals.

Next we have midfield. If you’re going to be a midfielder, you could be left mid, right mid, or centre mid. My personal favourite is centre mid. A midfielder is usually the one who passes the ball to the striker so they can shoot and score.

Lastly we have defence. Just like midfield, you can be left defence, right defence, or centre defence. A defender’s role is to make sure the ball does not get close to the net because we don’t want the other team to score and win.

Last but not least, here is my most important tip. If you really want to get better at soccer, all you need to do is practice! You can practice outside, with a friend, or even inside your house. There are so many places to practice that even I can’t name them all. I recommend practicing what you are not so good at so you can improve your skills. But also practice what you are good at so you can beat your dad.

Unfortunately, that’s a wrap for today’s blog. See you guys in the next one!
